Tingoora, Memerambi & Wooroolin
Wooroolin
Considered to be the home of the first commercial crop grown in the South Burnett, Wooroolin has played a long and interesting part in the region’s peanut producing legacy. A large Paulownia tree plantation near Wooroolin was also one of the filming locations for Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan, a 2019 Australian war film about the Battle of Long Tan during the Vietnam War. The Wooroolin Wetlands are a fantastic place to walk and explore the native wildlife and the rest stop in the middle of town is a free 24-hour camping site for travellers to take a break and relax.
Memerambi
One of the many tiny townships you’ll pass through on the rail trail, Memerambi was once home to a busy railway station which helped bring growth to the region as it allowed local farmers to take produce to market. Now Memerambi is a nice quiet place to stop and stretch your legs and take a toilet break, with a new amenities block conveniently located beside the rail trail. There’s also a wonderful little nursery just out of town on the way to Gordonbrook Dam.
Tingoora
Another beautiful rest stop along the South Burnett Rail Trail, Tingoora is home to some of the prettiest views in the Burnett. The town takes its name from a railway station which was named for the local Indigenous Australian word in the Wakka Wakka language for the wattle tree. The historic Tinny Pub was the first building to be constructed, built in 1900. Tingoora’s free overnight rest stop has basic amenities and is conveniently situated right on the rail trail.
Things to do
Take a ride along the rail trail, do some bird watching at the Wooroolin Wetlands and explore some great country hospitality.
Places to eat
