Harness Your Potential Carriage Driving Development Camp & Competition
The South Burnett Equestrian Group, in partnership with Driving Queensland, is proud to present the Driving Spectacular this October. This event is a fantastic opportunity for drivers at all levels to compete, learn, and connect through a range of training sessions, competitions, and masterclasses. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced driver, the event has something for everyone, with pathways to develop your skills and earn qualifications in the sport of carriage driving.
Participants must be members of either the South Burnett Equestrian Group (SBEG) or hold an EA Participant or Competitor Membership to compete. A key highlight is the CAN1 competition*, where athletes can qualify for higher-level events, progressing towards FEI 1 and 2 Driver status**.
National and International Coach/Presenter Profiles
This event brings together some of the most respected figures in carriage driving, offering participants world-class coaching and expertise:
Robert Buck
Robert is a versatile and accomplished coach who has trained horses for carriage driving, eventing, and dressage at international levels. A successful competitor, Robert has represented Great Britain at three Combined Pony World Championships, earning a bronze medal with his team. His training methods focus on classical principles, ensuring horses are trained in a correct and effective way.
Jodie McKeone
Jodie, a second-generation movie animal trainer, has been involved in driving her whole life and has a strong dedication to Para Driving. She is the first Australian Para Driver to achieve FEI classification and represented Australia at the FEI Para Driving World Championship in 2023, where she won a bronze medal in the Grade 1 division. Jodie is passionate about equine welfare, with a focus on correct harness fit and ensuring the safety and performance of both horse and driver.
Julie Camm
With over 30 years of driving experience, Julie has represented Great Britain in multiple pony world championships and is currently the Chef D'Equipe for the British Para Driving team. Julie is committed to ensuring drivers of all abilities can access top-quality training. She runs the GB Pod training group, specialising in sports driving and integrating drivers with disabilities into mainstream competition.
Event Highlights
- Lessons & Clinics: One-on-one training sessions with top coaches like Robert Buck and Jodie McKeone are available, starting from $100. These can be booked via Nominate.
- Masterclasses & Presentations: Covering a wide range of topics, from fitness and training techniques to cones course design and the basics of driving, these daily sessions will provide valuable insights from leading professionals.
- CAN1 Competition*: Qualify for the CAN1 event* on Sunday, where successful athletes will advance towards FEI 1 and 2 Driver status**.
Facilities & Accommodation
The event will take place at Nanango Showgrounds, offering powered and unpowered camping sites, as well as horse yards. Additional accommodation options, including motels and caravan parks, are available in nearby towns.
Meals & Refreshments
Nanango offers a variety of local pubs and takeaways, with delivery services available to the showgrounds. Complimentary tea, coffee, and biscuits will also be provided for wristband holders.
