What to expect at the Museum
Since its opening in November 2001, the Museum has stood as a tribute to the rich legacy of the South Burnett's timber industry, a cornerstone of the region's early settlement and ongoing development.
As visitors approach the Museum, they are greeted by a traditional timber structure adorned with life-size sculptures that pay homage to the industry's pioneers. A bullocky and his head bullocks, an old water-well, and a post-and-rail fence set the scene, while a stainless steel silhouette of a timber cutter stands proudly on the eastern end of the building.
Inside, the Museum transports visitors back to the early 1900s with a captivating wagon camp diorama, complete with a restored bullock wagon. Against a backdrop of authentic wooden slabs and shingles, displays of South Burnett timbers, artifacts, and photos offer a vivid glimpse into the region's timber heritage.
SThe Museum experience extends beyond its exhibits, with a well-stocked Gift Shop showcasing locally produced woodcraft and serving as part of the incorporated Visitor Information Centre. Adjacent to the Museum, the Woodcrafters' Workshop provides a platform for local woodworkers to demonstrate their skills, with a display of over 100 wooden mushrooms highlighting the diverse range of timbers available in the region.
With its immersive exhibits, engaging demonstrations, and locally crafted treasures, the Museum invites visitors to explore and celebrate the enduring legacy of the South Burnett's timber industry.
