Hivesville
If you’re a fan of good old-fashioned country hospitality, look no further than the historic Hivesville Hotel (1911). This gorgeous big red brick building was one of the towns first buildings originally named the Proston Hotel. It was destroyed by fire in 1935. Between the original pub burning down and the new pub finishing construction a temporary bar was opened from a former butcher’s shop which was situated just across the road. The Hivesville Country Markets are held on the fourth Sunday of every month with free kids crafts and a jumping castle for the youngsters as well as a range of fresh produce and craft stalls.
Hivesville has a number of pretty little spots to crack out the thermos and enjoy a break from the drive. It’s also the final place to fuel up on the way to Boondooma Station (57km) and Boondooma Dam (almost 80km away) as Proston does not have a petrol station, so make sure to fill your tank up.
